I just received an email from Songkick that outlines their intentions to take users' private profiles on their service and make them public. This seems like a logical next step for them, given that they already have a great hold on event and artist content. Folding in user-generated fan content and their favorites into the public mix opens up all kinds of money-making opportunities for the site - think targeted advertising, increased organic search engine traffic.
I couldn't find a blog post from them on this topic or any other news, so I'm posting the contents of the email here.
Hi Songkickers,
We're reaching out to let you know that as of 1st December, we will no longer be supporting private profiles on Songkick - which means that your user page will automatically become public.
This is part of a number of other changes we are making to the site, which you can read about here in more detail. But we wanted to let you know personally about this particular change so that you have time to think about how you can continue to use Songkick without this feature.
No users will be searchable on the site, but this change will mean that:
- your user page will be indexed by search engines
- your attendances will be displayed on event pages
- other users will be able to view your page if they click through to it from an event you've said you're going to
Here are some options for you to continue to use Songkick without this feature:
- change your username to something anonymous, you can do this here
- change your profile picture to something non-personal, you can do this here
- remove your profile picture altogether - we can do this for you - just email

- unmark your attendances on events. You can do this by clicking again on the 'I'm going'/'I might go' buttons
If you wish to delete your account altogether, the option to do this is under your Account Settings here, on the right hand side.
If you have any other questions about this change, please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Thanks for your continued support,
Soldiers of Songkick.
Songkick's killer feature is the ability to track your favorite artists, including event alerts that fans can sign up for. You basically select the artists you'd like to follow and their service sends you emails as soon as it becomes public that a new event is created for your favorite artist. Often times, I've received these alerts before the band, venue or ticketing site announced it.
